How to switch on Automatic iOS and App Updates for Apple iPhone and Apple iPad As of September 2017 there is no way of automatically installing updates for the operating system on iOS (iPhone, iPad etc) but it can be done on OSx (Macbooks, iMacs etc) For now, keep an eye on the “Settings” icon on your iPhone or iPad and if it has a number in the top right corner, an update is required. Click on : “Settings” > “General” > “Software Update” However, Apps can be automatically updated on iPhones and iPads. Click on “Settings” > “iTunes & App Stores” Under “Automatic Downloads” switch on “Updates”   Also See the following: Are your Apple Devices up to date?
